When planning a vacation to the Clearwater / St. Petersburg / Tampa area, there are three airports within a close range that cab fare or ride-sharing fees won’t ‘break-the-bank’.
St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) Known as the ‘Birthplace of Commercial Aviation’, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport was formerly a military flight-training base in 1941. This 2000 acre airport is home to 3 LS-equipped runways and is located just 8 miles from Clearwater and 13 miles from St. Pete Beach.
Tampa International Airport (TPA) Recently renovated with a price tag of $154 million, this 3300 acre campus employs more than 7500 people and serves over 21 million passengers annually. Tampa International Airport is located about 16 miles from Clearwater and 21 miles from St. Pete Beach.
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) Located 42 miles from Clearwater and 25.5 miles from St. Pete Beach, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport dates back to 1939. During WWII, the airport was leased by the federal government and used as a fighter pilot training base. This ‘small hub’ airport offers two runways on an 1100 acre spread of land.
